Energy Label (A to G)
The energy label is the label on a washing machine that rates its energy efficiency on a scale from A (most efficient) to G (least efficient) and shows its energy use, water use, spin class and noise [1][2].

What it means
Bosch says the revised label applies from 1 March 2021, when the plus classes such as A+++ were dropped and the scale became A to G [1]. Alongside the letter, the label shows [1]:
- Weighted energy use in kWh per 100 cycles on the Eco 40-60 programme.
- Weighted water use in litres per cycle, and the programme time.
- A spin efficiency class, and the spin noise in dB(A) with a noise class.
- The maximum load.
- A QR code that links to an EU database where you can view and download the product datasheet.
Why it matters when you buy
The letter lets you compare machines quickly, and Smart Energy GB says an A-rated model is usually the best choice when replacing one [2]. The letter is only a summary, so check the kWh per 100 cycles figure as well, because that is the number you need to work out what a machine costs to run.
How you will see it
Retailer pages show the class letter, and the full label gives the figures above. Our washing machine running cost calculator uses the label’s energy figure.
