CarPlan Demon Ice: Specifications and Earlier Review

img-0

At a glance

  • What it is: A concentrated 2-in-1 ice preventer and de-icer in a 1 litre bottle, sold under the CarPlan name.
  • Key specifications: 1 litre; rated to protect against freezing to −20°C; spray on the glass the night before frost, or use as a de-icer in the morning (UK retailer listings).
  • Suits: Drivers who want to try a pre-icer spray for light frost and are happy to clear the residue with the wipers.
  • Skip if: You want a clear windscreen without scraping in heavy frost. The earlier review reported that it did not manage that.

We haven’t tested this product ourselves. This page summarises two UK retailer listings, checked 19 October 2026, and quotes an earlier review. That review was written by the previous owners of this site, when it traded as Trusted Car Products, and was originally published on 15 February 2019 [3].

What the earlier review said

These are the earlier review’s own words, from 2019. We have not repeated the test and cannot confirm them.

What they paid: “We picked up a bottle of this for £4 at our local Wilko store.” That is not the same as today’s listing, which is £8.30 at Arnold Clark Autoparts, and the earlier review does not give the bottle size.

How they used it: “We followed the instructions and sprayed the product on a windscreen before a frosty night to see the outcome the following morning.”

What they liked:

  • “Used as a de-icer it worked ok”
  • “For a de-icer based product I thought it had a nice scent”

What they didn’t like:

  • “It didn’t really work. For a light frost we found that it did make the ice a bit slushy but still required scraping off. For a heavier frost it didn’t really touch it.”
  • “Based on the above, its price point is very high.”
  • “If used on a non-wiped window (eg. Side window) it would leave a residue behind”

Their overall view: “it didn’t perform much better than a cheap can of de-icer you can get for a quarter of the price”.

The residue comment fits the retailer’s directions, which say to use a squeegee to remove the product from windows without wiper blades before driving [1].

Known issues and safety

Recall check: we searched GOV.UK product safety alerts, reports and recalls (Office for Product Safety and Standards) for “demon ice” on 19 October 2026. It returned 19 results, matching the word “ice” in general, and none was Demon Ice, a CarPlan product or a de-icer [4]. Check the list again for the exact product before you buy.

The directions say the product must be removed before you drive, using the wipers and screenwash, or a squeegee on windows without wipers [1]. The AA says to make sure the wipers are off before you start the car, because wipers frozen to the glass can be damaged [5]. See our guide on how to clear an iced windscreen safely.

Questions people ask

Is it a de-icer or a pre-icer?

Both, according to the retailer. It is described as a 2-in-1 ice preventer and de-icer [1][2].

How low a temperature is it rated for?

Both listings say −20°C [1][2].

Do I wipe it off?

Not when you apply it as a pre-icer the night before. In the morning, the directions say to use the wipers and screenwash to remove the excess [1].

Did the earlier review think it worked?

Not well. The previous owners said it made light frost slushy but still needed scraping, and did not touch heavier frost [3]. We have not confirmed that.

Our verdict

Based on the evidence, this suits drivers who want to try a pre-icer spray and accept that heavy frost may still need scraping. The only account of how it performed is the previous owners’ 2019 review, which was not positive. This is a research summary, not a test result.
